Nido & Infant Community (0-3 years)

The Child

In our Nido & Infant Community, children from 5 months to 3 years are cared for in a calm, homelike environment where they feel safe, loved, and free to explore. Whether a baby learning to grasp and roll, or a toddler confidently dressing themselves or helping a friend, each child is supported to take meaningful steps toward independence. Through freedom of movement, hands-on discovery, and social interaction, children develop strong motor skills, growing confidence, and the emotional security that allows them to flourish. This early environment builds the foundation for curiosity, autonomy, and joy in learning.

The Method

Between the ages of 0 and 3 years old, children have an enormous capacity to absorb knowledge from their environment.

Maria Montessori described the earliest years as governed by the “absorbent mind”—a phase where children effortlessly take in knowledge from their environment. At IMS, our approach honors this sensitive period by offering a prepared, loving space where young children can grow apart from their parents with confidence and curiosity. Our Montessori guides observe and support each child respectfully, creating a balance between nurturing care and meaningful, developmentally appropriate challenges. We encourage independence, social engagement, and emotional growth, all within a peaceful environment that mirrors the rhythms of home.

Learning Areas

Learning during this stage is sensory-rich, movement-driven, and intentionally simple. Carefully selected materials encourage children to use their hands, refine their coordination, and engage with language through songs, stories, and conversation. Whether reaching for a rattle or pouring water at a child-sized sink, each activity supports physical, cognitive, and emotional development. The environment remains intimate and flexible, tailored to meet the individual needs of each child, fostering self-confidence, focus, empathy, and the foundations of autonomy.

Schedule

Our Nido & Infant Community program runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with lunch and healthy snacks included. The structure of the day mirrors the child’s natural rhythm, balancing activity, nourishment, rest, and connection to support holistic development.
